Ahmednagar Naming Issue: अहमदनगरचे नाव बदलून पुण्यश्लोक अहिल्यादेवी नगर ( Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Nagar) करण्याची मागणी भाजपा आमदार गोपीचंद पडळकर (Gopichand Padalkar) यांनी विधानपरिषदेत (Vidhan parishad) केली होती. या मागणीनंतर सरकारने नामांतराच्या हालचाली सुरू केल्या आहेत. याबाबत जिल्हाधिकाऱ्यांमार्फत अहमदनगर महानगरपालिकेच्या(Ahmednagar Mahapalika)महासभेच्या ठरावाची प्रत मागवण्यात आली आहे. यावरून स्थानिक नेत्यांच्या संमिश्र प्रतिक्रिया येत आहेत.
अहमदनगरचे नाव अंबिकानगर करण्याची मागणी शिवसेनेने याआधी केली होती, मात्र त्यानंतर आता भाजपाचे आमदार गोपीचंद पडळकर (Gopichand Padalkar) यांनी थेट विधिमंडळात याबाबत मागणी करून सरकारी भूमिका काय? असा तारांकित प्रश्न उपस्थित केला होता. यावर बोलताना मंत्री दीपक केसरकर यांनी अहमदनगरच्या नामांतराबाबत सरकार सकारात्मक असल्याची माहिती दिली होती. याबाबत स्थानिक स्वराज्य संस्थांचे प्रस्ताव देखील मागवले असल्याचे त्यांनी सांगितले होते. शासन स्तरावर आता हालचाली सुरू झाल्या असून जिल्हाधिकाऱ्यांनी महापालिकेकडे तसा ठरावाची प्रत मागवली आहे.
अहमदनगरच्या नामांतराबाबत भाजपाचे जिल्हाध्यक्ष यांनी स्पष्ट भूमिका घेतली असली तरी इतर पक्षांनी यावर सावध पवित्रा घेतला आहे. नामांतराने शहराचा आणि जिल्ह्याचा विकास होणार नाही, आधी विकास महत्वाचा अशी प्रतिक्रिया विविध पक्षाच्या नेत्यांनी घेतली आहे.

अहमदनगर शहराची स्थापना 28 मे 1490 रोजी मलिक अहमद बादशहाने केली. नुकतीच अहमदनगर शहराच्या स्थापनेला 533 वर्ष पूर्ण झाली आहे. मलिक अहमद निजामशहाच्या नावावरुनच अहमदनगर हे नाव पडले आहे. अहमदनगरचे नाव राजमाता अहिल्यादेवी होळकर यांच्या नावावरुन करण्याची मागणी केली असली तरी यापूर्वीच शिवसेनेकडून अहमदनगरचं नाव ‘अंबिकानगर’ करावी अशी मागणी झाली आहे. शिवसेनाप्रमुख बाळासाहेब ठाकरे यांची 1995 साली वाडिया पार्क इथे झालेल्या सभेत त्यांनी अहमदनगरचं नाव आजपासून ‘अंबिकानगर’ झालं असं जाहीर केलं होतं. तेव्हापासूनच शिवसेनेने ही मागणी लावून धरली होती.
