कैद्यांना कर्ज मिळण्याच्या प्रस्तावाला काही महिन्यांपूर्वी केंद्रीय गृहमंत्रालयाने हिरवा कंदील दाखवला होता. त्यानंतर या योजनेची अंमलबजावणी करणारे महाराष्ट्र हे पहिले राज्य ठरणार आहे. कैद्यांचे जीवनमान सुधारावे आणि त्यांच्या पुनर्वसनाच्यादृष्टीने राज्य सरकारने हा निर्णय घेतला. येरवाडा तुरुंगात ही कर्जवाटप योजना यशस्वी ठरल्यास राज्यभरातील तुरुंगांमध्ये तिची अंमलबजावणी होऊ शकेल. तसे घडल्यास तुरुंगात असतानाही कैदी आपल्या कुटुंबाची आर्थिक गरज, मुलांचे शिक्षण किंवा लग्न यासाठी कर्ज घेऊ शकतील. तुरुंगातील कामांसाठी मिळणाऱ्या मोबदल्याच्या आधारे कर्ज देणारे महाराष्ट्र हे पहिले राज्य ठरेल. राज्यातील तब्बल १०५५ कैद्यांना या योजनेचा लाभ मिळू शकतो.
